Ohio high school kickoff show
This is a show that I am very proud of. In Ohio high school football is a big deal, and each week I produced a 90 minute preview show like no other in the country. Our regional sports network is the home of the Ohio High School Athletic Association, and for 14 weeks in a row we previewed the best match-ups, and told the best stories in the state. This particular show won a 2013 Bronze Tele Award for production.
This show comes from week 11 of the 2012 high school football season. We began this show with the top story in the state. Cleveland Heights high school filed a lawsuit against the OHSAA in order adjust formalities that kept their team out of the playoffs. News came down minutes before our show about a ruling, and in a last second move, I was able to secure an interview with a spokesperson from the OHSAA that gave us immediate reaction about the breaking news. Also, we begin our tour of some of the best match-ups in the state with one of our weekly contributors.
In this segment we begin our tour around the state of Ohio and bring viewers coverage of the Youngstown and Lima area's high school football teams. We also tell the story of a team that had not visited the playoffs in a very long time, and got reaction from the players as the entered their first playoff game in years.
This segment previews games in the Toledo and Columbus areas. We tell the story of a team whose playoff drought ended after beating their arch rivals in one week earlier.
We interviewed a local coach in this segment that had just gotten his 200th win, and clinched a playoff spot in their first ever division I playoff. We also covered the Southwestern corner of the state with guests from the Cincinnati and Dayton areas.
We tell the story of a Cleveland area high school that was making their first playoff appearance in 81 years. We also interview the coach of a small school favorite to win the state championship.
One of our weekly contributors and high school football analysts joins us in this segment to break down the "Game of the Week" that was live on our air on a weekly basis. He also takes a look at some of the other Cleveland area matchups.
Over the course of the season we had fun with our hosts and fans by allowing them to pick 3 winners each week. Fans were able to visit our website to interact with the show and make their picks. This is the final segment of our show, and our guys always had some fun making their picks.
